The WECO Backwashing filter featuring KL/OZ serves as a specialized Point-Of-Entry (POE) system designed for municipal and well water supplies. The iron reduction media comprises manganese dioxide (MnO2) coated onto naturally mined ZEOSORB, forming a lightweight filtration media with diverse functions related to water treatment. Notably, its high surface area effectively filters particulate matter down to three microns, making it ideal for removing Totals Suspended Solids (TSS), turbidity, and sediments such as sand and oxidized mineral particles. The KL/OZ unit is enhanced with an oz generator for improved performance, facilitating the easy removal of iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide. The active surface coating oxidizes and precipitates soluble iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide during the backwash operation. Additionally, the media efficiently removes lead, copper, radium, uranium, and other heavy metals and radionuclides. The AIO/Oz feature contributes to the longevity of the Katalox Light media bed, becoming active during each regeneration cycle. The system is programmed for daily regeneration to ensure optimum performance. Available in six different USA-made Vortech mineral tank sizes, it is crucial to match these sizes with the available backwash/service flow rates. Consulting WECO Technical Support is recommended to select the appropriate filter size, as choosing a larger tank size without the required backwash flow may lead to cementing of the media bed, necessitating the replacement of the entire tank.

  • Backwashes every night and requires backwash flow gpm in chart below as recommended. Kynar check valve (part #316-CV-OZ) should be replaced and the corona discharge cell cleaned annually. Typical media replacement every 5 - 7 years* (depends on water chemistry).
